John Giordano is an expert in the treatment of addiction and the founder of The National Institute For Holistic Addiction Studies (NIFHAS). He is the author of “Proven Holistic Treatment For Addiction & Chronic Relapse,” and his most recent book is the acclaimed: “How To Beat Your Addictions And live A Quality Life.”
Mr. Giordano has contributed to over sixty-five research papers with his close friend and colleague Dr. Kenneth Blum, discoverer of the addiction gene. Their papers have been published in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals such as: Medical Hypotheses, BMC-Cases Journal, The IIOAB Journal, Journal of Psychiatry and Neuroscience, BMC- Medical Case Reports, Medical Hypothesis, Journal of Post Graduate Medicine, Neurophramacology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience Journal, and American Journal of Psychiatry.
In his pursuit of organizing and developing new holistic treatments for addiction, Mr. Giordano founded the National Institute for Holistic Addiction Studies (NIFHAS); a think-tank and research facility where world-renown scientists and addiction professionals conduct clinical studies in developing evidence-based new and alternative treatments for addiction.
Giordano's achievements have not gone unnoticed; he is the media's most sought after addiction expert. Mr. Giordano has appeared on countless notable national and local TV programs such as: CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, FOX Mornings with Mike and Juliet, Tom Brokaw NBC News, ABC news, CNN Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, Geraldo, and "Interventions" on A&E as well as many other national and local TV and radio shows.
Giving back to his community has always been core principle of Mr. Giordano’s. His efforts to better his community have also been recognized. Florida State Congresswoman Carrie Meek presented Mr. Giordano with the distinguished "Martin Luther King Award" for his work in the community. He was also awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the Homeless Community of Dade County and the Humanitarian Award from South Florida Public Television Station, WPBT.
Giordano has played a pivotal role in ushering evidenced-based, holistic (comprehensive approach) protocols into the mainstream of addiction medicine. He first became
interested in alternative medicine while training in karate when he was fourteen. Years later – and at a time when most had never heard the term ‘holistic’ much less understand it’s meaning – Giordano was hard at work developing modalities founded in holistic principles. He learned early in his counseling career the important roll amino acids played in proper brain function. The lack of quality amino acids available on the market forced Giordano to begin formulating his own with a focus on mental health. His signature nutraceutical, Mental Clarity, has been shown to improve cognition, memory and energy while minimizing emotional responses to stress.
Mr. Giordano is on the Board of Directors of the Florida Chapter of the Association of Addiction Professionals (FL/NAADAC 2010 & 2011), and Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association (FADAA, 2010 & 2011). He is also a member of The American Hypnotherapy Foundation, American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, and holds the Distinguished Member Award from the National Association of Forensic Counselors.
It was by no accident that Giordano chose addiction treatment as his life’s work. Nearly thirty-years ago, at the urging of his family, John entered rehab. He emerged a changed man - committed to helping others afflicted by this hideous disease. Giordano's new path required new knowledge. He has since earned many degrees and certifications including Certified Addiction Professional (CAP), Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), Certified Hypnotherapist, Certified Traditional Indian Medicine Program, Master in Neurolinguistics Programming, Certified Practitioner of E.M.D.R, Certified Sentence Mitigation Specialist, Certified Mindfulness and Powerful Mind-Body Awareness Therapy Skills, International Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor, and in 2008 he was honored with a Doctor of Human Letters from Sinai University in Jerusalem Israel.
Becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of care he observed in treatment facilities, Giordano set out on his own. He opened an addiction treatment facility over twenty-years ago which evolved into G & G Holistic Addiction Treatment in North Miami Beach, Florida. The facility a 62 bed in/out patient center is one of only a handful of holistic center of its kind to earn the coveted Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations' (JCAHO) highest distinction: The Gold Seal of Approval.
In addition to his daily responsibilities; Mr. Giordano has provided counseling and trauma recovery services to law enforcement officers and Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. He is a state and federal expert witness and also the Chaplin of the North Miami Police Department. Mr. Giordano trains law enforcement officers and Green Berets in self-defense and negotiation techniques.
Mr. Giordano is a karate Grand Master. He is a 5 time US National Karate Champion, and Metropolitan AAU Judo Champion. Giordano is a 10th Degree Black Belt in Karate and a 1st Degree in Judo, Jiu-jitsu. Mr. Giordano was inducted into the World Martial Arts Congress Hall of Fame in 1996.
